Book Reviews

Welcome:)

I reserved this space specifically for book reviews. I love the written word and feel that I can see the entire world through literature. My reading list ranges from literature of the African Diaspora to the American classics. I hope to one day broaden my language base to include the untranslated writings of the French. It is my wish that you enjoy these brief passages on some of my favorite novels and share some of your favorites with me as well...

Good morning Family,

It's a dull drab morning here in Baltimore but I am thankful nonetheless. Wanted to come and share my latest book review with you all. I read Jay Z's "Decoded" about 2 months ago and I have to say it was MUCH more than I expected. The book was primarily about hip hop and his overall love and enthusiasm for the game so many years in but he also touched on a few other topics such as politics and religion. I am left with an even deeper appreciation for Jay Z and all he has contributed to rap and urban culture. Check out my video reviews below and feel free to leave a comment and let my know what you think:) Blessing for a beautiful day. Cee ya in the next post!!

Peace Family,

I hope you all had a wonderful memorial day weekend! I know I did :) Lot's of fun in the sun. I'd like to keep you all in the loop as to whats going on over on my you tube channel. I have a few new things in the works that you too can be apart of so stay tuned lol. In keeping with this message, I have posted below my latest book review from Tyrese Gibson "How to Get Out of Your Own Way." I have to say it is a really insightful book. By just listening to Tyrese sing and watching him in film, we are not capturing the full essence of who he is. In his book, Tyrese provides us with a greater understanding of how he reached the level of success he has and the practices that helped him to do so. Grab your favorite snack and watch along as I reveal a few of my favorite moments in Tyrese's book. I hope some of them become your favorites too. Until next time I wish you all peace and light.

Book Review: Hill Harper's "The Conversation"

Peace Family,

I write to you today to share the masterpiece that is Hill Harper's The Conversation. This book...lets how I can really describe it: It's real in a homeboy sitting around the dorm talking kind of way yet well put together in a "oh he really put some thought into how he wanted to present all these characters" kind of way. You see, the book is full of thoughts and opinions from some of Hill's closest friends and even some of the guests at events he attended. It challenges all the preconceived notions that African-Americans have accepted as truth and hinder us from actualizing happy/healthy relationships. One of the quotes that stuck with me from this book was "'So is marriage as hard work as everyone says?’ I asked the table. ‘Nothing that good is easy,’ Jordan answered. ‘Staying fit is hard, too. Just because something is hard doesn’t mean it’s not worth it; maybe the opposite is true.’” Pg. 329 I encourage you to check out The Conversation as there are tips for everyone from the single lady to the married man. I pull a few more cool quotes from the book in  the video below. Enjoy and feel free to leave your comments and feedback. I love hearing from you all!

Peace and Light,

Book Review: Hair Story

Peace Family,

I hope this post finds you all well. I have been  so busy with life and redecorating my new room that I have neglected to post here. My apologies. I recently decided to add a new facet to my you tube page simply entitled "Book Reviews." I read a lot and it is one of my extreme pleasures to share the knowledge and insight of these books with others. In an effort to keep it fun and light (as oppose to boring you to death lol) I have decided to share the videos here instead of writing out the review. Let me know what you think. The first video is a review of Hair Story by Lori Tharps and Ayana Byrd. It is essentially the history of African- American hair. It was a great read. Very informative and comical at moments. Currently, I am reading Hill Harper's The Conversation and I can not wait to share the details of this one with you!! If you have read either of these books, please feel free to share your thoughts below. Until next time, I wish you all peace and light.
