Fifty year old in twenty year old's body..

This is often how I feel. I had a long day of work and class came home and all I wanted to hear was this..

And this is not an isolated event. It happens all the time. if its not Stevie its Maze. If its not Maze its Chaka. Speaking of Chaka...few songs make me feel better than "Hollywood" when I'm stuck in traffic. Well anyway, I'm rambling. Just wanted to share a song :) Share if you like. Tty in the next post!

Music Therapy: Nas "Cherry Wine"

Between a very hectic work and school schedule, I've needed a little music therapy to maintain my mellow. As of late, Nas has been the cure. I've literally started every morning for the past week with "Cherry Wine." Give it a listen and let me know what you think. I hope it adds a little something to your day ;).

Leave it to Anita...

So I was blessed this morning. Not just for waking up, having good health, family, friends and the love of God in my life, but blessed to have the pleasure of hearing one of my favorite singers has revamped one of my favorite songs. Who am I talking about that would warrant such a grand introduction? None other than Ms. Anita Baker! If you know me then you know, I ADORE her. Her voice reaches to the very heart of me. There was never a summer cookout, a relaxed Sunday, or holiday without Ms. Anita playing in the background. She is a part of the soundtrack to my childhood. One song from her on an antsy day will mellow me right out. Feel free to check out her version of Tyrese’s “Lately” below. Wishing you a peaceful and productive day.

Song of the Day: Messiah "Redemption Song"

"Caring is sharing"
So, I thought I'd come share this with you. With all the ails of the world (food shortages, water purification, education deprivation, and spiritual well being) it is rare that you hear an artist in today's music industry shed light on these issues. Enter: Messiah (Poet/MC/youth activist)

"Men became puppets now our women are barbies"

The line that resonated most with me upon first hearing this song. It suggests we question what's real? And consider the more fulfilling question, what makes us happy and free? What is keeping us from being whole/complete people?

I read a quote on one of my favorite hair blogs Curly Nikki that goes:
‘Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.’

Sound familiar? Man's quest for wealth is so passionate but does not always leave him fulfilled. We instead become "muppets and barbies" completely out of tune with ourselves living a mundane and unfulfilled life. Women can put so much time and energy into their outer appearance that they become spiritually bankrupt. Men base so much of their worth on the things they have acquired around them that, without "things", they have no idea who they are and what they contribute.

The idea is not to judge or demean but to rather look inward and assess the things that bring us true joy and peacefulness and strive to live everyday from that place, a place of fulfillment and truth. In that way, we can redeem ourselves. We have the power, intuitively, to correct our wrongs and walk in a new more fulfilling space and enjoy the freedom that it brings. Check out the video below and be encouraged :) Until the next post, I wish you all peace and light.

Song of the Day: Fantasia "Even Angels"

Hey Fam,

I know I haven't done this in a while but I'm back with another song of the day. Part of the things I want to concentrate on doing this year is simply what makes me happy. I LOVE blogging so I will definitely be doing more of it. Even if it means writing down my post in the car while waiting on someone until I can't get to the computer lol.

This song speaks to me. It reminds me that none of us are perfect and that sometimes we just have to accept our failures because they aid us in "learning to fly." That is my interpretation of the song at least lol I'm feeling it and I hope you will to :) Check out the video below. Have a great day, morning, evening whenever you read this and leave your comments below I love to here from ya!

Peace and light,

Song of the Day

Fantasia

Hey Family!

I apologize for being kind of MIA this week. Things have been very busy (In a good way) and I will be explaining more about that in a later post. But for now, I come to you with a "Song of the Day!" Today's song is "Total Praise" and the version of it is by Fantasia. I have had this particular rendition of the song on replay for the last two days! Fantasia tore it up OK! Like she really did her thannggg! But then again I wouldn't expect anything less from her :) People can say what they like, but the girl has a gift. Maybe it would help her a little more to include more songs like this one on her albums. I would definitely listen :) Check out the link below to enjoy some good ole down home stronggggggggg sannging for the Lord. Mm hmm. lol As always, have peaceful day. Cee ya in the next post! Song of the Day: "You Will Know" by Stevie Wonder

Hello Family,

Today's song is by my all time favorite Mr. Stevie Wonder. This is by far one the most relaxing songs I have ever heard. In this song, Stevie speaks as the voice of God reminding us that he is by our side and that we "will know" the answer to our most pressings questions. This song is very relevant for me today as I have been feeling an overwhelming urge to enlist in the military. I have been going back and forth with this decision for the past five months. There is just so much to consider family, friends, organizations, just my life here. I know it would be a huge sacrifice and is a decision that I never thought I would even consider. I plan on pondering the idea for a few more months. Whatever the case, you all will be amongst the first to know! Leave your favorite songs below I would love to hear them. Those of you who follow my YouTube channel know music is my love<3 I have a recipe coming for you all later today so look out for that! Link to "You Will Know" below. Cee ya in the next post!

Song of the Day: "Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing'"

Stevie Wonder: Innvervisions Album Cover
If I had to describe the role this song plays in my life I would call it my "Pick Me Up Song." If I am feeling a little down this is definitely one of the top five songs I would go to just to lift my spirit and get me back to feeling alright :) Stevie Wonder is also my all time favorite artist!! Second to Janet Jackson who was my favorite from about eight years of age until about 22. (More on that in another post) Comment below and tell me your favorite pick me up song. You never know, you might just brighten some one's day :) Link to song below. Cee ya in the next post!!

Song of the Day: Damien Marley "There for You"

I chose this song as the FIRST "Song of the Day" because it moves me. There is not a day that I could not listen to this song. You know how you can like a song but not be in the mood for it on a given day? That is not the case with this song. I fell head over heals in love with it the first time I heard it. Just the way the song opens is inspiring "Vexation of spirit is a waste of time/Negative thinking, don't you waste your thoughts/Verbal conflict is a waste of word/Physical conflict is a waste of flesh." I found myself grooving to the words like "exactly!!!" And the music behind the lyrics is just like an orchestra sooooo peaceful:) I'll put the a link to the song below. Feel free to check it out and let me know what you think. Comment below and share your song of the day. I love checking out new music so put me on! Cee ya in the next post :)
