Tyrese Gibson "How to Get Out of Your Own Way"

Peace Family,

I hope you all had a wonderful memorial day weekend! I know I did :) Lot's of fun in the sun. I'd like to keep you all in the loop as to whats going on over on my you tube channel. I have a few new things in the works that you too can be apart of so stay tuned lol. In keeping with this message, I have posted below my latest book review from Tyrese Gibson "How to Get Out of Your Own Way." I have to say it is a really insightful book. By just listening to Tyrese sing and watching him in film, we are not capturing the full essence of who he is. In his book, Tyrese provides us with a greater understanding of how he reached the level of success he has and the practices that helped him to do so. Grab your favorite snack and watch along as I reveal a few of my favorite moments in Tyrese's book. I hope some of them become your favorites too. Until next time I wish you all peace and light.

Have You Noticed?: Beyonce's Back Up Dancers

Have you noticed?

Beyonce's two main back up dancers, who have traveled and danced alongside her through the success of "Single Ladies," rock their huge Afros freely. Their kinks and coils can be seen flying everywhere throughout her many concerts and performances. I felt so compelled to do a post about this because Beyonce sometimes gets a bad rep for her long, blond, straight hair as if she has something against natural hair. Clearly, that is NOT the case because if it were, I don't think she would allow two obviously natural women to accompany her night after night, performance after performance on stage. Beyonce herself has worn lots of Afro styles particularly during her role in the Austin Powers film Goldmember. Her most recent video Run the World (Girls) also features a lot of women with  natural hair. Hair styling choices should be left up to the individual. We can be comfortable in our own choices without diminishing those of others. More pictures and video of Beyonces back up dancers  Kimberly Gibson and Ashley Everett are below. Enjoy:)

Song of the Day: Esperanza Spalding "Look No Further"

Peace Family,

I have been meaning to blog about this song for a while now. Hmm let me count the ways lol I really like this song, it is so calming. I can stop and listen to it at any time during the day and something about the tempo and Esperanza's voice on this song just cheers me up. She sings it so beautifully! It is a great rendition of an already great song. *Sigh* bliss! Enjoy the video below and have a great/wonderful day! The weekend is here :)

Julian Louie Shoes!

I'm in love! Seriously I <3 this shoe! It is apart of the Julian Louie shoe line at Aldo. Blue is my favorite color, in any shade, I just love blue and these shoes are so spring summer appropriate. Actually, they could kind of get it in, in the fall too:) Cute. I just thought I'd come and share. Are you obsessing about any shoes this season? If so, leave a comment or link below. Wishing you all a peaceful and productive day. Stay light.

Nails of the Week: Elf Mint Cream

Peace Family,

It is nails of the week time and I have been trying to get around to using this nail color for a minute. I got it during an elf sale back in February and I am just getting around to using it lol My sisters went in on it when I first got it so it finally made it back my way. As always, I used LA Colors top/base coat, Elf polish in Mint Cream, and LA Colors nail art in black. I like the way it turned out. Simple yet unique. I am a pretty simple/basic person so the dots add a little interst to the nail color without going completely over the top. I had sparkle glitter nails last week so I definitely wanted to tone it down this week. I hope you enjoy this post and I'll be posting soon with a review of Tyrese's "How To Get Out of Your Own Way." Until next time, I wish you all peace and light.

Move Your Body!

Peace Family,

I have to admit I am completely caught up in the craze that is Beyonce's "Move Your Body" in collaboration with Michelle Obama's "Let's Move!" initiative. It is so much fun! I love that so much emphasis is being put on physical fitness as it pertains to health. With all the hand held devices made for entertainment these days, it is easy to become a bit of a couch potato. What is so great about "Let's Move"is that it's fun for children and adults alike and can get the entire family moving and grooving lol. Feel free to check my reenactment of Beyonce's "Move Your Body" video below and find sometime to get up and MOVE!!

Nails of the Week: (I Cee Spots!)

Peace Family,

It is nails of the week time and man am I excited about this weeks nails! Ok real quick what I used:

-L.A colors top/base coat
-NYX pink
-Sally Hansens glitter
-Every other color I had! lol

This week I wanted something fun and bright because I read that the weather was going to be kind of funky (cloudy and grey) so, I thought I would add my own little sunshine to the week. I hadn't used this particular shade of pink in a while so I thought eh why not but I didn't want to have all one color nails (I did purple on every nail last week boring!) so I got to fooling around and putting specks of color all over my pointer finger. Taa Daa!! Spots lol For a little extra spazazz I put one coat of Sally Hansens glitter over the spots. It looks really cute on toes too :) Well, that is all for the nails this week. If you have any comments or suggestions please leave them below. See ya in the next post!

Book Review: Hill Harper's The Conversation

Peace Family,

I write to you today to share the masterpiece that is Hill Harper's The Conversation. This book...lets how I can really describe it: It's real in a homeboy sitting around the dorm talking kind of way yet well put together in a "oh he really put some thought into how he wanted to present all these characters" kind of way. You see, the book is full of thoughts and opinions from some of Hill's closest friends and even some of the guests at events he attended. It challenges all the preconceived notions that African-Americans have accepted as truth and hinder us from actualizing happy/healthy relationships. One of the quotes that stuck with me from this book was "'So is marriage as hard work as everyone says?’ I asked the table. ‘Nothing that good is easy,’ Jordan answered. ‘Staying fit is hard, too. Just because something is hard doesn’t mean it’s not worth it; maybe the opposite is true.’” Pg. 329 I encourage you to check out The Conversation as there are tips for everyone from the single lady to the married man. I pull a few more cool quotes from the book in  the video below. Enjoy and feel free to leave your comments and feedback. I love hearing from you all!

Peace and Light,
