DIY: T-Shirt Scarf

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am blessed to say I did. My day was spent with family. My sister and I actually hosted Thanksgiving dinner at our house which was a first and we really enjoyed. While many folks were out partaking in the black Friday sales, we (my two sisters, cousin, her husband, and two sons) went to the movies and took a little time for some DIY which produced the picture you see above. I got the idea from Mr. Kate on YouTube. I will post a link to the video below in case you choose to make one yourself. The scarf was SUPER easy to make and fun to personalize. I've been listening to Justin's first album "Justified" so much lately. Reminds me of a really happy time in my life. Sometimes its nice to reminisce. At any rate, I like "Nothin Else" in particular because it has a Marvin Gaye feel that is just for lack of a better phrase: feel good. I mean it just feels good when you're listening to it and it stays with you. I find myself humming the melody long after the song has gone off. The lyrics are just great and creative and you can definitely hear Pharrell all up and through the song. So, I was you tubing this morning and came across Beyonce's latest video for Party. I have to say I love the video for the style and laid back feel but, WHERE IS MY ANDRE!

Andre 3000 is one of my fave rappers. Everything about him is art. I was stunned and less than pleased to cee the video without him. Not to say I don't like J. Cole. In fact, he is one of my fave rappers out right now but I digress...It would have been nice to cee Andre in the video. Not sure why he wasn't but eh if you know leave a msg below. M.I.A?/ Song of the Day

Sorry I haven't been on here in a while. The truth is I have been meaning to write for days. I will start a post and something will come up and I never finish smh. So, until I get a chance to finish the more extravagant posts I've been working on for you all, I will just give you a brief account of what has been keeping me...I went out of town the weekend before last. Went to Charlotte with friends had loads of fun hence the picture above :) This past weekend, I tried my hardest to catch up on school work and house stuff. I'm also working on a project I'm calling "Hats for Hearts" which is an initiative to donate hats to west Baltimore Elementary Schools. I'll have a more detailed post coming for that soon. I have some interviews lined up to post here as well. Bare with me as time is moving very fast for me right now and I'm trying to keep up, as best I can, on everything. Here's something I would like to know, what have you all been listening to lately? I've been in a really old school kind of mood myself. Nails of the Week

Peace Family,

I wanted to come on and share with you guys this nail look I did about a week ago. I thought it was so cute and bright. Within the next month or so bright oranges and pinks will be out, so I'm really enjoying this time. Here are the colors I used:

The teal color in the picture was used to create the same look on my toes as my pointer finger in the pic above. The key polish that is missing from this picture is my fave top coat L.A. colors top/base coat. It can be found for one dollar at Family Dollar and keeps my nail polish fresh for way past a week. I hope you enjoyed this post and if you have any questions let me know. Thanks for reading!

A Different World Helped Me Face Fear!

Peace Family, I was on the treadmill today looking for something to watch on television when I saw "A Different World" scrolling pass on the menu so of course I had to tune in. Like most 20/30 year olds "A Different World" is a part of the fabric of my childhood. Before I knew it, somewhere between Whitley's mother meeting Kim for the first time and Whitley apologizing for her mothers rude disregard of Kim's name, I realized I was running on the treadmill without looking down! Now for some of you this may seem like a small thing, but for me it is huge! I have always been afraid to run without carefully watching my step for fear that I might fall and hurt myself but instead today I did just the opposite. I reached a higher plateau without even noticing. Before I knew it, my run was up and it was time for light weight lifting. So what does all this mean? I think it can be used as a life lesson. Don't be afraid to do the things that make you happy. When we are doing what we like,  we don't feel like we're working at all! We are actually acceding our own expectations and shining our brightest light. I hope this post serves as an inspiration for someone. I know it will serve as a reminder for me:) Peace and light, Cee<3

Baltimore Hair Meet Up Postponed

Peace Family,

For those of you who had plans to attend the natural hair meet up this Saturday September 3rd it has been postponed because the Oyin handmade store Exittheapple will be closed. I am rescheduling for September 17th and I hope to cee you all there. This meet up is very important to me as it is a chance for me to meet subscribers and converse with others who love and enjoy their hair. Going natural this last time was a journey with many ups, downs, twist, and turns but I came out better in the end. I know exactly how to care for my hair now in so many different conditions. I've learned a lot and I know many of you have as well. I look forward to hearing from you and sharing a few of my experiences too. Check out the video below for details. Its so encouraging and is a celebration for everyone the 20, 30, and 40 somethings trying to make their way in the world on their own terms. I like the song for the simple freedom it provides. I come to you all this morning so happy. It is the calm after the storm here in Maryland and Irene is gone. We are left with the recovery (picking up trees, debris, etc.) I pray my mom and friends get power soon :(

Also, I'm so happy for Beyonce and Jay-Z this morning. They are hip hip royalty and are a couple that has weathered the storm of celebrity and rumor mill with poise. It is going to be so great to witness them continue their talented legacy with the birth of their child. Cheers to them :) In case you haven't already seen it, check out Beyonce's performance at the VMA's last night. Peace and blessings to you all for a great week :)

I'm usually not one to over react about storms and such but this one is suppose to be a mother!! I have heard about little else in the last few days and I even got a notice on my door to remove all air conditioners from windows to avoid water disruption. I repeat, ITS ABOUT TO GO DOWN! I had to cancel my Baltimore Natural Hair Meet Up this weekend which dang near broke my little excited heart smh. So, I thought I would put a few of the tips I have been hearing below just in case you live under a rock and haven't heard the thousands of news casts and people talking in the hallways, train stations,  and bus stops about this hurricane. Here you go:)

-Have a radio and batteries handy in case of a power outage so that you will be informed of the latest developments.
-Keep a cooler and ice handy in case of a power outage.
-Keep away from windows and skylights and make sure both are closed and secured.
-Invest in a decent size flash light and lots of batteries
-Grab a deck of cards, crayons, and coloring books in case of an power outage so you can have a little fun indoors:) (Courtesy of Vida at my job)

Well that's all I really have folks. If you're a meat eater, it may be a good idea to get a separate cooler for meat in case of an power outage so it won't go bad. Diabetics please get a cooler to put your medicine in if you take insulin (learned from my mommy :). I hope this posts helps you all in some way. HoneyCee: For those who may not know, What is Nelle Belle's Confections and how long has it been in operation?

Chanel: NelleBelle's Confections is a home-based confectionery with the aim of providing all things sweet: if you want it for dessert, you can get it from us. from cookies and brownies, to cakes and cupcakes, to ice cream and pie, we offer a wide variety of options to satisfy nearly every sweet tooth under the sun. The business has been in operation since June 2010 with big hopes of a long, successful future.

 

Honey Cee: What kinds of deserts do you make?

Chanel: Our current menu includes 20+ cupcake flavors available in three sizes and more flavors being added almost monthly. We also make classic as well as custom-order cakes for every occasion, cookies, Parisian macaroons, brownies, cake pops, and cake balls. The bakery is in the process of expanding to pies, cobblers, ice creams, candies and fudge.

 

 

 

Honey Cee: How does your daily life influence your craft?

Chanel: Being a chemist by day and a baker by night makes mixing, assembling, and creating an all-day task. People are generally excited about dessert so, if for some reason I can't find inspiration within myself, someone is always willing to give me ideas (or maybe just cravings) for the next cupcake.

 

Honey Cee: When did you start baking?

Chanel: I grew up in a household constantly filled with candy so once I was old enough to operate an oven and build such goodies for myself, I dove right in. I started making cookies in high school but they weren't exactly a success. I kept with it through college but the recipe still hadn't quite matured into anything worth bragging about. It wasn't until after college that I started making cakes and cupcakes for my friends' birthdays. It's been love ever since.

 

HoneyCee: What is your favorite thing to make?

Chanel: Cupcakes! I think it's awesome that they come in a convenient serving size.  It's as if whichever cupcake I choose was made especially for me, individually wrapped and ready to go.  I love the ability to make each one different: adding swirls, sprinkles, fillings, colors, etc. all to easily create a personal touch to each one.  And they're just so cute! I have yet to meet a cupcake I didn't think was adorable.

 

 

 

HoneyCee: How can people who are interested in your services get in touch with you?

Chanel: 'Collard Greens and Cornbread' by Fantasia - no real rhyme or reason to it, I think it's the mix of love and food that make me want to sing along.

Good morning Family,

It's a dull drab morning here in Baltimore but I am thankful nonetheless. Wanted to come and share my latest book review with you all. I read Jay Z's "Decoded" about 2 months ago and I have to say it was MUCH more than I expected. The book was primarily about hip hop and his overall love and enthusiasm for the game so many years in but he also touched on a few other topics such as politics and religion. I am left with an even deeper appreciation for Jay Z and all he has contributed to rap and urban culture. Morning Glory: Mugging

Those of you who have been following my blog for a while now may remember this post about how much I love my morning tea. Well a few months back my special mug was broken and I have been on a quest to find the perfect replacement mug since. Introducing the "life is good" mug. Now I've been through a few mugs before this one which were good but the letters faded in a few weeks or they couldn't withstand the heat lol. But this mug has been doing an ok job. It fulfills the requirement of having a positive affirmation and can fit a decent amount of tea inside even though it isn't nearly as big as my first special mug sigh. Let me know what you think of my new mug below. Oh! Did I mention I got it from the dollar store? My first one was a walmart baby lol yall know I'm all about the frugal. Cee ya in the next post!

What do I not love about this song? lol But seriously from the moment it comes on with the sweet sounding guitar and pounding drums beating like a heartbeat I just can't help but get wrapped up in it.
